A proposal for a local poll to give every elector in Somerset a vote on local government

A proposal for a local poll to give every elector in Somerset a vote on the two options for the future shape of local government in the county is to be considered at meetings of the district councils at the end of next week.

The papers for those meetings, containing the rationale for the poll, the legal basis on which it would be conducted, and the details of its conduct, is available from the councils’ websites.

If the proposal is agreed the local poll, or referendum, would be held from 18 May to 4 June with voting online or by post.
