Making it local – real reform over reorganisation

The key principles which set out why Stronger Somerset is the best choice for a better future in the county have been made clear in an article for The MJ.

Written by Georgina Cox, local government expert at PA Consulting and Alex Parmley, chief executive at South Somerset District Council, it sets out how proposals for the future should focus not on structures but should instead be based on addressing Somerset’s issues and challenges, including raising productivity, levels of social mobility and prospects for healthy aging. 

By putting reform ahead of re-organisation, the Districts have developed a case for change that is distinct to Somerset’s place-based context and local priorities
