Referendum proposal update

The District Councils have received a response from the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government to the proposal to consider a local poll on the future of local government of Somerset.

We are publishing that letter in full for residents' information.

The district councils are now considering a short deferral of any decision to proceed with a local poll in the light of this letter. They will be seeking further expert legal opinion on the specific and detailed legal issues the letter raises. This will ensure that all councillors have full and thorough legal advice when reaching their decision on such a significant issue.

The Government consultation closes on Monday 19 April. Have your say now.
